Gyoumri Airport Facts

Gyumri Shirak airport is the second largest airport in the Republic of Armenia. The airport occupies a central location, about 5 km from Gyumri and about 120 km from the city of Yerevan. The airport’s main building and the runways have been in use since 1982 but was renovated to a great extent in the year 2007 by making use of the resources allotted by the Armenian government under ‘ Armenia International airports’ scheme. The runways were asphalted to a length of 3220m; a new signal system has been installed with special ground handling techniques incorporated.  The airport had also gained a status of the ICAO first class report offered by the General department of aviation by the Government of Armenia in the year 2007.

Arrival and Departure

Gyumri has been a known name for international tourist who visits the place every year to witness its untold history and beautiful attractions. Flights to the city of Gyumri should reach the Shirak Airport and records very limited service. Flights seem to better reach the zvartnots international airport better than directly hitting at Gyumri because of its location on top of a hill. Of the international flight carriers that fly to and fro the Shirak Airport, The BMI, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic is significant and they connect the city with London. The airport is also the home for many domestic flights within the Republic of Armenia. The airport offers regular flights to Sochi, Moscow and Rostov–on-don.
